How the tiers work

The 2026 season uses ranking tiers rather than the Open and Cup labels of the first year. A PPA Asia 500 stop awards 500 ranking points to each champion, a 1000 stop awards 1000, and the season finale in Hong Kong is a 1500. The PPA Asia 125 series runs alongside the main tour for players outside the top 20 of the PPA Rankings.

The dragon

The tour frames the 2026 season around an interlocking three-medal set it calls the dragon: a Cup medal is the body, an Open medal the tail, and the head is awarded only at the Hong Kong Slam finale. Hien Truong is the only player holding two pieces, the MB Hanoi Cup silver and the Panas Kuala Lumpur Open gold. He did not enter the Leapmotor Kuala Lumpur Cup, so the head in Hong Kong remains the missing piece.

Season medal leaders

Counting the five Pro events at each main-tour stop. The two PPA Asia 125 events are left out: that series bars top-20 players, and its brackets contain players who share names with main-tour regulars.

Tama Shimabukuro, 15, leads the season with seven golds across five stops. No player has completed a triple crown in 2026: Sahra Dennehy and Chao Yi Wang both reached three finals in Beijing and played each other in all three, and Chao Yi Wang reached three finals in Kuala Lumpur in May.

Season storylines

Eunggwon Kim and Hong Kit Wong still have no gold together. The pair lost the Men's Doubles semifinal at six consecutive stops, from the Panas Kuala Lumpur Open in May through to Ho Chi Minh City in August. They finally broke that run in Shenzhen and lost the final, then went out in the quarterfinals in Kuala Lumpur. Across the 2026 main tour they have one silver and six bronzes together.

Wong won three Men's Singles golds in a row, which no player had done. After losing the Macao final to Tama Shimabukuro in May he won in Beijing, Tokyo and Singapore. Luc Pham ended the run in the Ho Chi Minh City semifinals.

Shimabukuro went from a first Asia gold to the season lead. His first title of any colour on the tour came in the Mixed Doubles at the Panas Kuala Lumpur Open in May. He finished the run of stops covered here with seven golds across five tournaments, more than anyone.

Sahra Dennehy came close to a triple crown twice. In Beijing she reached all three finals and played Chao Yi Wang in every one, winning two. At the Leapmotor Kuala Lumpur Cup she reached three semifinals and came out with one final, which she lost.

Hien Truong waited a long time for a home gold. Silver at the MB Vietnam Cup 2025, silver at the MB Hanoi Cup and bronze at the MB Vietnam Open had all come in front of Vietnamese crowds. He won the Men's Doubles in Ho Chi Minh City with Quan Do, though the singles again went elsewhere.

Kaitlyn Christian beat Brooke Buckner in two finals. Both went the distance and both were won from a game down, at the MB Hanoi Cup in April and the Leapmotor Kuala Lumpur Cup in September.
