Hien Truong had won three medals in front of a Vietnamese crowd and none of them were gold: silver at the MB Vietnam Cup 2025, silver at the MB Hanoi Cup 2026, and bronze at the MB Vietnam Open 2025. The MB Ho Chi Minh City Open 2026 was his fourth attempt.
He was seeded second in Men's Singles behind Hong Kit Wong, who arrived having won a third straight singles gold in Singapore. Adam Harvey, a finalist in Singapore on his Asia debut, was seeded third.

Truong reunites with Do in the doubles
Truong lined up in Men's Doubles with Quan Do at the third seeding, a pairing that had already won twice together, most recently at the Capital Securities Beijing Open 2026. Eunggwon Kim and Wong were the top seeds, still looking for a first Men's Doubles gold together. A new fourth-seeded pair, Hoang Nam Ly and Collin Johns, gave Vietnam a second interest in the draw.
Long leads the Women's Singles
Yufei Long took the top Women's Singles seeding after a two-gold week in Singapore. She was not entered in the Mixed Doubles, which ruled out a triple crown. Rika Fujiwara, seeded third, was making her first appearance since winning the Women's Singles in Tokyo.
Jaeda Minniefield and Luc Pham, who won the Mixed Doubles in Singapore in their first tournament as a pair, stayed together at the sixth seeding.
