Hong Kit Wong arrived at the first Leapmotor Singapore Open having won the two previous Men's Singles titles on the tour, in Beijing and Tokyo. No player had won three singles titles in a row in Asia.

The serving numbers behind the run
In side-out scoring only the server can score, so points per side out is a reasonable measure of how much a player wins on serve. The official tour preview published Wong's figures across his three previous deep runs.

Tokyo was the most ruthless of the three: 89 points from 56 serving turns, and a title won without dropping a game.
What happened in the Macao final
The same numbers broken down by round show the one match that went wrong. Wong's Macao semifinal was his best serving round of any of the three weeks, and his Macao final was his worst.

In the Macao final he served 25 times for 18 points and lost to Tama Shimabukuro, who won 11-9, 11-9 without trying to out-serve him. Fifty-seven per cent of all serving turns in that match produced no points at all, and the longest run by either player was three. Neutralising the runs is the template for beating him.
The draws
Wong and Hien Truong were placed at opposite ends of the Men's Singles draw, so a rematch of their Beijing semifinal could only happen in the final. Truong's projected semifinal was against the winner of a quarterfinal between the sixth seed Nasa Hatakeyama, the reigning Panas Kuala Lumpur Open silver medallist, and the third seed Adam Harvey, a top-20 ranked singles player making his Asia debut. Luc Pham, seeded fifth, sat in Wong's quarter.
The same rivalry ran through the Men's Doubles. Truong entered with Kenta Miyoshi as the third seeds and was projected to meet Wong in the semifinals; Wong partnered Eunggwon Kim as top seeds, a pairing with a Hong Kong Open silver and four bronzes together and no gold. Len Yang and Collin Johns were seeded second after winning in Kuala Lumpur and finishing second in Tokyo.
Both women's draws were unusually short of settled partnerships. In the Women's Doubles only the third seeds, Nok Yiu Tang and Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall, had played together before, and the top seeds Jamie Haas and Lingwei Kong were a first-time pairing. In the Mixed Doubles, Tang and Kim returned as the one long-standing pair in a top four otherwise made up of new combinations.
