Storylines
Oncins, from champion to top seed
Eric Oncins (BRA) won a marathon Men's Doubles final with Tyson McGuffin (USA) in Malaysia on Sunday and is the Men's Singles top seed in Da Nang. McGuffin and Oncins reunite as the second seeds in Men's Doubles, looking to defend their title immediately. Hong Kong Open champion Hong Kit Wong (HKG) is the second seed in singles after losing last week's Malaysia Cup final to Christian Alshon.
Christian v Long, possibly in the quarterfinals
Top seed Kaitlyn Christian (USA) arrives with Women's Singles and Women's Doubles gold from Malaysia. Fifth seed Yufei Long (CHN) has four PPA Tour Asia golds, three of them in singles, more than anyone else in the region. The draw projects them to meet in the quarterfinals: the PPA Tour's No. 3 ranked player against Asia's most successful.
Vietnam at home again
Phuc Huynh (VIE) is the fourth seed after winning the MB Vietnam Open in Ho Chi Minh City three weeks ago, with a possible quarterfinal against 14-year-old Tama Shimabukuro (USA), who beat Tyler Loong in Fukuoka. Third seed Giang Trinh (VIE), the Malaysia Open champion, is chasing a first title on home soil. Ho Tam and Sophia Tran (VIE) lead the Vietnamese women; Tran plays Mixed Doubles with Malaysia Open gold medalist Vanshik Kapadia (IND).
Johns tries another partner
Ben Johns (USA) keeps experimenting. After silver with Alshon in Malaysia he partners Dekel Bar (ISR) as the Men's Doubles top seed. In Mixed Doubles, Danni-Elle Townsend (AUS) pairs with Zane Navratil (USA) as the fourth seeds, a new combination after Townsend's Women's Doubles upset of Anna Bright and Navratil's Men's Doubles bronze in Malaysia.

Jimmy Liong (MAS) is in the Men's Singles main draw and partners Lin Guangsian in Men's Doubles. Colin Wong (MAS) pairs with Nguyen Thang (VIE) in Men's Doubles and Anna Clarice Patrimonio (PHI) in Mixed Doubles; Muhammad Aiman (MAS) plays Men's Doubles with Marco Leung (MAC), the man who beat Grayson Goldin in Malaysia.
