PPA Tour Asia's second tournament lands in Hong Kong this week, and it brings the tour's freshest rivalries with it. Two champions from the opening stop in Malaysia arrive looking to go back to back, while two UPA Asia Trailblazers (players on the tour's development contracts) who made their names as partners now sit on opposite sides of the Women's Doubles draw.

Storylines
Wong at home, Trinh and Long chasing a double
Giang Trinh (VIE) and Yufei Long (CHN), the Men's and Women's Singles gold medalists at July's Panas Malaysia Open, both want a second title in as many stops. Trinh's path runs through top seed and home favourite Hong Kit Wong (HKG), known to Hong Kong tennis fans as Jack Wong, who took bronze in Malaysia and is the man the Kai Tak crowd has come to see. Long tops the Women's Singles seeds outright.
Women's Doubles has the week's best grudge
Long and Ting Chieh Wei (TPE) stunned the fourth seeds at the Select Medical Orange County Cup as a Trailblazer pairing earlier this year. In Malaysia, Wei teamed with Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall (USA) and beat Long in the final. In Hong Kong the pairings have shuffled again: Long partners Wang-Beckvall as the second seeds, while Wei plays with Roos van Reek (NED) as the top seeds. A final between two players who were partners a few months ago is a live possibility.
Siblings, a new pro and a wildcard with a habit
Hong Kit Wong and his younger sister Hong Yi Wong team up in Mixed Doubles. Armaan Bhatia (IND), who won the 2024 PPA Tour Australia Melbourne Championships and has just signed a PPA Tour pro contract, partners Wang-Beckvall in Mixed Doubles. Wildcard Jack Foster (USA) arrives with a record of upsets: he beat Jack Sock in straight games at the 2024 Atlanta Slam and Wong himself in a decider at last year's Bristol Open.
Malaysians in the draw
Jimmy Liong (MAS) is in the Men's Singles main draw and pairs with Sophia Tran (VIE) in Mixed Doubles. Syed Uzair Sufi (MAS), Ooi Kah Yan (MAS), Athilla Miasara (MAS) and Farreez Isqandar (MAS) start in Thursday's qualifying.
