The second Junior Pickleball Holiday Camp concluded last week at The Mad Pickleball courts inside Boulevard Shopping Mall in Kuching. Over three days, children between the ages of seven and twelve trained, competed, and walked away with certificates marking their participation.
Three Days, One Clear Goal
The camp was organised by Daywalker Junior and VIBRANCE Pickleball Group, with backing from the Kuching Pickleball Association.
The programme covered speed dinking, footwork, and match play. It also focused on discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship, making it more than a technical clinic.
Mini-tournaments and mixed doubles matches kept the pace up throughout. A 'Future Pro' finals segment capped the camp, giving participants a formal stage to demonstrate serve placement, third-shot drops, and on-court communication.
According to Founder of Daywalker Junior Academy:
With pickleball growing rapidly in Malaysia, we want to continue giving children opportunities to learn the sport in a fun and positive environment.
She described the camp as another step in building the next generation of players in the region.
What's Next?
Monthly clinics are being planned, and a junior tournament is scheduled for next year.
The aim is to create a clear pathway for young athletes, keeping them active and giving them somewhere to grow inside the sport as their skills develop.
Every child who attended left with a certificate, a small but deliberate gesture to mark their involvement and keep them connected to the game.
The combination of an organised junior programme, association support, and already-confirmed follow-up activities points to a community that is thinking beyond just the next weekend session.
The junior tournament next year will be the real test of whether the momentum from these two camps has turned into something that lasts.
