Japanese players reached four of the five finals at the Sansan Tokyo Open 2026, two of them for the first time in their careers.
Yuta Funemizu and Tama Shimabukuro, the top seeds, beat Eunggwon Kim and Hong Kit Wong 12-10, 6-11, 11-5 in the Men's Doubles, which gave Funemizu his first shot at a medal on the tour. Collin Johns and Len Yang awaited after beating Brandon French and Wyatt Stone 12-10, 11-7.
Fujiwara reaches two finals in a day
Rika Fujiwara beat Lingwei Kong 11-1, 11-5 in the Women's Singles, then partnered Kei Sawaki to an 11-8, 11-6 win over Yu-Chieh Hsieh and Sophia Nhi Huynh in the Women's Doubles. It was Sawaki's first final on the tour. Fujiwara went into the final day on a seven-match singles winning streak, having won her first Asia gold at the Macao Open in May.
Kao upsets the top seed
Pei-Chuan Kao lost the first game and beat the top seed Kiora Kunimoto 9-11, 11-5, 12-10 to reach the Women's Singles final, a first meeting with Fujiwara.
A Beijing rematch, and the same result
Hong Kit Wong beat Zane Ford 11-6, 12-10, repeating the Beijing final result and reaching a second straight Asia final. Mitchell Hargreaves beat Nasa Hatakeyama 5-11, 11-8, 12-10 to reach his first singles final.
