Gabriel Tardio and Noe Khlif trailed 10-0 in the first game of their first match on Malaysian soil. The top seeds got on the board before the game ended, but they still lost it 3-11 to Park Seong Yong and the Malaysian Syed Uzair Sufi.
Then the match turned completely. Tardio and Khlif took the next two games 11-5 and 11-1, and a quarterfinal against Luc Pham and George Wall followed.
The top singles seed withdraws
Zane Ford did not play a match. The official bracket records him as withdrawing from both the Men's Singles round of 32 and the Mixed Doubles round of 64, so Easton Horricks and the pairing of Yaxuann Miao and Albie Huang advanced without playing him.
Liong wins an all-Malaysian meeting
Jimmy Liong Kai Long beat Er Yang Khoo 11-2, 11-9 in the Men's Singles, which set up a round of 16 tie against the third seed, 15-year-old Tama Shimabukuro.
The fourth Women's Doubles seeds go out
Kaitlyn Christian and Allyce Jones, seeded fourth, lost 12-10, 12-10 to Nok Yiu Tang and Yufei Long. Christian drew Tang again in the Women's Singles the following day.
Elsewhere the seeds held. Second seeds Augustus Ge and Len Yang and fourth seeds Eunggwon Kim and Hong Kit Wong both went through in straight games.
