Storylines
Garnett in three events
Connor Garnett (USA), the PPA Tour's No. 3 ranked singles player, is the Men's Singles top seed and brings two US singles golds into his Asian debut. He partners Tyler Loong (USA), the tour's No. 20 in Men's Doubles, and the pair are the clear favourites for that title. Garnett also plays Mixed Doubles with Allyce Jones (USA), the No. 8 ranked PPA Tour Women's Doubles player, who pairs with Pei-Chuan Kao (TPE) in Women's Doubles.
Wong arrives as a champion
Hong Kit Wong (HKG) carries his momentum straight from Sunday's Hong Kong Open final, where he beat Giang Trinh 11-9, 4-11, 11-9, into Fukuoka as the Men's Singles fourth seed.
The Trailblazers reunite
Yufei Long (CHN) and Ting Chieh Wei (TPE), the UPA Asia Trailblazers (players on the tour's development contracts) who stunned the field at the Orange County Cup, have spent two stops playing against each other. Wei won Women's Doubles gold in Malaysia and Hong Kong with two different partners; Long took silver in both finals. In Fukuoka they play together again.
Japan's wildcards
Daniel Moore and Kei Sawaki (JPN) bring an experience-and-youth combination to Mixed Doubles, while Nasa Hatakeyama and Mayu Ito take singles wildcards. Kenta Miyoshi (JPN) has a Mixed Doubles wildcard alongside Trailblazer Sophia Tran (VIE).
Malaysians in the draw
Jimmy Liong (MAS) is in the Men's Singles main draw, pairs with Han Hyuck Chu in Men's Doubles and with Isha Lakhani in Mixed Doubles. Syed Uzair Sufi (MAS) and Farreez Isqandar (MAS) start in Men's Singles qualifying; Lim Guang Sian (MAS) partners Andrew Pham in Men's Doubles.
