Last-Minute Schedule Flip Leaves Bila Bila Players Fuming

Updated 3 min read

Less than 24 hours before the opening rally, players registered for the Bila Bila Pickleball Club Championship Rally 2026 woke up to news they had not signed up for: the Women’s Doubles category had been quietly shifted from an evening slot to early morning, with back-to-back play now expected for anyone competing in both Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles on Sunday, 26 April.

The tournament, hosted at Playa @ The PARC Subang and organised jointly by Bila Bila Pickleball Club and platform partner Baseline, had already drawn significant interest as a DUPR-rated event open to both Malaysian and international players — with prize money reaching RM 4,000 for the champion category. That profile made the scheduling flip all the more jarring.

What changed — Sunday’s revised schedule

11:30 AM – 5:00 PM → Intermediate Mixed Doubles

8:00 AM – 2:00 PM → Beginner Men’s Doubles

8:00 AM – 3:00 PM → Novice Mixed Doubles

8:00 AM – 12:30 PM → Intermediate Women’s Doubles (moved from evening)

12:30 PM – 6:00 PM → Men’s Doubles Open

The announcement was relayed through a group chat by a participant acting as a go-between for the organiser, noting that those playing in both categories would effectively face continuous back-to-back matches with no apparent recourse offered.

“It’s quite ridiculous to change timing like that with so little notice... pls relate this to the organiser.”
— Jessica Ng, tournament participant, via group chat

Wider Pattern, Bigger Stakes

The frustration at Bila Bila is not an isolated complaint. Pickleball commentator @augustpickler published a widely-circulated Instagram post this week pointing to a troubling pattern across Malaysian tournaments: category sizes exceeding intended limits, scoring systems (21-point vs 15-point rally) changed post-registration, and match timings overhauled with under 48 hours’ notice.

The stakes feel especially pointed for an event that explicitly welcomes international players. For someone who has booked flights and accommodation around a specific schedule (not uncommon in a DUPR-rated, prize-money event) a same-day slot change is not a minor inconvenience. It can mean missing flights, absorbing extra hotel nights, or forfeiting the category entirely.

What the Community is Asking For

The calls from players are not unreasonable. Commentators and participants alike are asking organisers to lock in formats once registration closes, protect match schedules (or offer genuine withdrawal options with refunds when changes are unavoidable), and communicate transparently about capacity limits before players commit.

As @augustpickler put it:

“This isn’t about complaining, or limited organisers. It’s about raising the baseline, and building trust in the system. Because the level of play in Malaysia is rising — and the way we run tournaments needs to rise with it.”

The Bila Bila Championship Rally continues through Sunday at Playa @ The PARC Subang. Players with scheduling enquiries have been directed to contact the organiser at 017-3717843.
