Pickleball in Malaysia has a new high watermark. The AmBank Malaysia Pickleball Championship is returning for its second edition from June 19 to 21, 2026. The numbers behind this year's event tell a story of a sport growing faster than many anticipated.
Organised by Score Sports Management and backed by AmBank Group as title sponsor, the 2026 championship has set a target of 600 players (up from 500 in its debut year). At the same time, the total prize pool has grown from RM50,000 to RM66,000.
The tournament takes place once again at PLAYA Racquet Club @ PARC Subang, a venue that has quickly established itself as a home for competitive racquet sports in the Klang Valley. Across three days of competition, players will battle across nine doubles categories spanning Novice, Intermediate, and Open skill levels. All formats feature men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles events.
Group Stage to Knockout
The format remains familiar to last year's participants, though the competitive landscape has tightened. Each category will follow a round-robin group stage, where every pair is guaranteed multiple matches before the top two teams from each group advance into a knockout bracket leading to the finals.
Scoring differs meaningfully between divisions:
- Novice and Intermediate: Matches run on a Rally Scoring system to 15 points throughout all rounds (including semi-finals and finals) with no deuce.
- Open Category: Players compete under Traditional 11-point scoring (0-0-2 serve format) from the group stage all the way through to the championship match.
From the semi-finals onward, all categories switch from single-set to best-of-three sets, with one timeout per set per team.
Who Can Enter
Each category has a defined DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) requirement. All ratings will be screened and verified against official records before the event. Players without an existing DUPR rating may self-assess, but final participation approval rests with the Tournament Committee.
Category Breakdown
Category | Events | DUPR Rating Required | Fee Per Player |
Novice | Men's, Women's & Mixed Doubles (19+) | ≤ 2.999 | RM190 |
Intermediate | Men's, Women's & Mixed Doubles (19+ & 35+) | ≤ 3.999 | RM190 |
Open | Men's, Women's & Mixed Doubles (19+) | > 3.999 | RM220 |
Notably, the Novice category carries an additional eligibility condition beyond rating: players must have no previous podium finishes in any prior tournament, regardless of its size, level, or format. Any participant found to have prior podium experience will face disqualification. This way, the entry-level category will be genuinely accessible to newer players.
Players may register for more than one category, provided match schedules do not conflict. In the event of a scheduling clash, a player must select one match and concede the other as a walkover to their opponent.
"This championship is about creating a platform where players can compete seriously, while keeping the sport accessible and inclusive." — Patricia Tan, CEO, Score Sports Management
A Prize Pool Worth Chasing

Cash prizes and trophies await winners across all nine categories. The total prize pool of RM66,000 represents a meaningful increase from last year's RM50,000. According to the organisers, prize values may be adjusted if registration falls below 50% of the intended capacity across categories.
Trophies this year are produced in collaboration with Natureloop, using recycled plastic and repurposed timber. This is an initiative that signals a broader move toward sustainable event practices. The championship ball is supplied by Franklin (the Official Tournament Ball), a brand well-known in competitive pickleball circles internationally.
Beyond the Courts
This edition deliberately extends its footprint beyond pure competition. Organisers have brought in collaborators TogetHER and TogetherGather to add a wellness and community dimension to the three-day event. This includes workshops, fitness sessions, and wellness-focused vendors alongside the main draw.
AmBank Group's Shazman Shahid, Head of Group Corporate Communications and Marketing, framed the bank's continued support in terms of community reach: the event offers clients and communities a chance to experience competitive pickleball firsthand while contributing to the sport's local development.
