Quang Duong’s pro path just shifted again — and this time, it looks like a clean reset.

This week, Duong officially signed with the Association of Pickleball Professionals (APP), opening a new chapter after a difficult stretch that ended with the loss of his prior agreements tied to the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) and Major League Pickleball (MLP).

It’s more than a change of uniform.

It’s a signal that Duong is still very much in the fight — and still looking outward, not inward.

Vietnam’s Breakout Name in a Fast-Growing Scene

Duong is widely viewed as one of the most prominent pickleball players to emerge from Vietnam, a country where the sport has been accelerating quickly. His visibility has helped introduce pickleball to new audiences, and his rise has carried weight well beyond match results — especially across Southeast Asia.

That mix of skill, style, and international pull helped him reach pickleball’s biggest professional platforms in the United States.

Then the ground shifted.

The Contract Fallout After Playing Internationally

Duong had been competing under deals connected to both the PPA and MLP when his trajectory changed. After opting to play internationally, his contracts were canceled — a decision that sparked conversation across the community and raised larger questions about how pro pickleball handles global participation.

Instead of stepping away, he stayed active, continued to compete, and kept his name circulating on the international side of the game — a path that ultimately led him to the APP.
