Gabe Tardio is bringing his world No. 2 ranking to Malaysia for the first time. He headlines the Leapmotor Kuala Lumpur Cup 2026, running September 9 to 13 at The Hood.
Five days of professional play await, and Tardio walks into a venue and a crowd he has never faced before.
Two new partnerships land alongside him. Noe Khlif makes his own Asia debut playing men's doubles with Tardio, just weeks after the pair stood on opposite ends of the net at the Major League Pickleball Finals in New York. In mixed doubles, Tardio pairs with Jessie Irvine, one of the tour's most decorated and entertaining players.
Tardio already holds one Asian title this year, from the MB Hanoi Cup in April. Speaking to The Straits Times after that trip, he said travel has become one of his favorite parts of playing pickleball professionally.
"I personally love travelling, I love getting to know other countries, so it was a great experience," Tardio told the paper.
He also described the fan reception in Vietnam as louder and more stadium-like than what he typically sees on tour in the US, and said the gap between Asian and American competitors is closing fast.
A Bigger Swing Through the Region
The Kuala Lumpur stop opens a run that keeps Tardio in Asia for two straight weeks. After The Hood, he stays on in Malaysia for clinics with local players, then moves to Singapore for community sessions, exhibition matches, and meet-and-greets, before closing the trip in the Philippines with more of the same.
Kuala Lumpur is the only stop on that run where Tardio actually competes for a title, with singles and doubles play on the line across all five days.
A debut in front of a new crowd is exactly the kind of moment Tardio says he plays for. And for a Malaysian pickleball scene watching its own talent pool grow fast, it's a rare chance to measure that growth against the top of the world rankings up close.
